“ Sunday. Service waiter was great. The advertising for brunch looked good so decided to go. Brunch isn't a normal type buffet like other places. You have to order from a menu. So I ordered a couple items at a time. Didn't like this because then you have to wait every time you order from the menu where as a buffet you get up & serve yourself quickly. The best items on the brunch menu are the chicken & waffle, menudo, chili verde, other items not so much. It is bottomless though. A separate order of shrimp Quesadilla and rice and beans was really good! In my opinion for the price it's better to order off the regular menu than brunch menu. At noon they started loteria (bingo) & karaoke. This would seem fun in a packed restaurant, but there were only a couple tables to play along. I think it would be nice to leave the loud music and disco lights off until noon. A.M.. is a bit too much for all that going on. ”
“ Love the hospitality and felt very welcomed, not including the delicious finger licken good. The staff were very friendly and full of enthusiasm always made sure our needs were taken care of. We recommend it. ”
“ I wood recommend the drinks here. The service was incredible. The waiter and waitress checked on us a few times. I think we might have ordered the wrong things here but the food was still good just not very authentic. The ambiance in here is very cool with a bunch of lotería and la muerte and famous musicians painted all over the walls. On Sundays they have Karaoke and it was very loud but a professional singer and saxophonist was there so it was pretty fun and sometimes hilarious. I did not sing but it was fun to watch. ”
“ Came to Tipzy's around 430 on a Wednesday with a friend. There was ample seating and we decided to choose sit at a booth. The waiter informed us it was happy hour until 6! Appetizers were $2 off, and well drinks were also part of happy hour. The service was great, food came out fast, the waiter frequently checked in on us. I ordered a strawberry margarita! So tasty after a long day at work :) exactly what I needed! Also a carne asada torta (no mustard) with fries. I thought the carne asada was very flavorful and the avocado in it was a nice touch. Not to mention the fries had a good crisp! The chorizo bean dip is a must try!!! So delicious! Great spot and really good service! ”
“ First time here today food was the bomb! From the chorizo bean dip and chips to the birria tacos to the chili verde wet burrito. Excellent friendly fast service and ambiance! Give them a try you won't be disappointed!!! ”
“ First time here. Was looking for a New Mexican restaurant to dine in and came across this place. Arrived just alittle after 5:30pm. Located at tower between BOA and The Howlin Wolf. Parking can be limited. As we entered we were warmly greeted. Noticed there was a paint night event happening saw the nice set up close to the entrance. There were a couple of people at the bar. Noticed how beautiful and colorful it was inside. I just took the time to look around and admired all the beautiful artwork. Our server was nice he was training someone. He took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. They had so many various items on their menu. I ordered the 3 combo plate: 2 asada tacos with one asada red sauce enchilada. My husband ordered the Shrimp a la Diabla with Fish for an extra $2. Guess they have karaoke nights. Definitely a fun lively place to hangout and have drinks. We had our toddler with us. It definitely got pretty loud the music was just on blast I couldn't hardly hear my husband talking to me and he was right in front of me. Noticed we were the only diners while others who came in had drinks. I felt it took just alittle long to get our food out. Waited about 20-25mins. But once it did presentation was beautiful and the food was really good and the portions were appropriate to pricing. The rice was soft and perfectly seasoned along with the beans. The asada meat was delicious, the enchilada sauce was not spicy and had a great flavor. I really enjoyed the food. My husband dish was also good but the strange thing we questioned was they used batter fish soaked in the red sauce. Perhaps non battered would have been a better option? They did mention it at the time we ordered but we were okay trying it.... No big deal. They checked on us at appropriate times. The restroom was clean and had the cutest pink sparking floors I was just so in love it. Overall it was a great experience. The food was delicious and the employees were so nice. The wait was a bit long but I would definitely return. ”
“ Confession: This is the first time I've been to Tipzys Tacos so review may change later. It is right in the heart of tower, across from my favorite Dollar twenty five tree. It is owned by a former DJ named DJ Tipzy Ambiance- The restaurant is a smaller scale than other restaurants. Upon entering, you are greeted with beautiful Mexican Folk Art and bright colors that make you feel like you are in San Diego. There is a main backdrop at the bar. I was not dressed, but if you want cute photo drops, especially on holidays, this is the place. You have beautiful Dia de los muertos Art and larging paintings of the greats such as Vicente Fernandez, Frida Kahlo, Selenas and Antonio Aguilar. Very cute! I personally think if they painted all the walls with more folk art and decorate the tables a little more, it would bring the restaurant aesthetic to another level. Pretty colorful Runner, colorful flower centerpieces, Mexcan Papels, little DOD statues, some floor vases. Service- Our waitress was very friendly and sweet. It is true about other reviews that our service was a little slow. We were not offered a drink menu. She had to double check what we ordered. The restaurant was not packed since it was a Thursday night. One thing I always like is getting my drinks right away, especially since I get a cocktail, water and coke. Lol. Food- I wanted the Tower Mariscos- Seafood Tower, but I decided for a 2 shrimp taco plate with rice and beans. My husband got 3 combo plate with shredded beef enchiladas, chorizo taco and rice and beans. Our food was made with homemade corn tortillas. He also ordered a homemade flour tortillas with butter on the side which gave him a nostalgic feeling of sitting on his mom's kitchen counter eating his tortilla with butter while she continued making tortillas. Tortillas- The homemade corn tortillas were definitely the star of the show when it came to our entrees. Rice- We really liked the garlicky taste. My husband who is Mexican could swear his mom was back there making this rice. Beans- Good. Shrimp tacos- I am very picky when it comes to shrimp tacos. I honestly have never found one I liked until now. The grilled shrimp was extremely delicious. The garnish of red cabbage, sauce, pico and a squeeze of lemon was very good. They gave us a red, smokey salsa and I honestly did not need it. Margarita- Everyone knows I like margarita on the rocks with salted rim. I got a house margarita for $5 and it was made perfect. Wasn't too strong, very flavorful and gave me a decent buzz. Price: For 2 entrees, one imported beer, one cocktail $5, one $4 appetizers, another $4 appetizer and 2 sodas, it came out to 72 with tax and tip. Not super cheap, but not bad for what we ordered. I definitely want to return for karaoke and breakfast. ”
“ I don't get too excited about homemade corn tortillas unless they are thick like these; they hit real different. We came in on Sunday afternoon. We were ignored for a minute at the entry waiting at the sign that said wait to be seated. Then told to seat wherever we wanted. I choose a table near the bar and kitchen to help ensure we weren't forgotten. It still took a bit for the waitress to come over and take drink orders. No drink menu and she said she'd bring over food menus after taking our drinks. Umm ok. So we went with beers on tap, which must have been two of the most expensive beers in Tower (more on that later). They still had posole so I ordered a small. My husband ordered a three taco plate with carnitas. My posole was delicious, the meat and the broth, yumm - the reason for the 4th star. I don't normally like the "natural" hominy they use - usually I find it too hard. But since I didn't eat it until 3:00, it was nice and soft, yumm. Two of those thicc, yes thiccc, freshly made corn tortillas came with it. I could have eaten four more just to eat with the broth. My husband's tacos had the same corn tortillas but since they're so thick, by the last taco, the tortilla was falling apart. But still delicious. We agreed that the carnitas were salty, taking away from what could have been great tacos. I would also have wanted some limes or lemon and more salsa for the tacos but if he had done so, the tortillas would have fallen apart even more quickly. The rice and beans were ok. Service was a little slow. Not much engagement or interest in us. The beers were just ok -- (although they arrived in an iced cold glass!) so we drank them slowly and were never offered to order anything else ( we usually order at least two drinks each). I'm glad we didn't because I can only imagine what the bill would have been. My small posole was $15, I think my husband's plate was $17 or $18 and I happened to notice our total before tip was $51 and some change. I was pretty surprised. I don't normally have anything to do with the bill and my husband didn't check to make sure it was correct. So if it was, those were some expensive beers. We doubt we'll be back, but, oh, man, I'll be thinking about those tortillas. Oh, I should add about the noise level. The TVs were playing football games which you expect to be fairly loud, but I guess because of the high ceilings/acoustics in the place, when commercials came on, they were reeeally loud as was the laughter from the fully occupied bar. ”
